Nanopatterning steel tooling for industrial applications

Nanopatterned material surfaces can bring various functionalities without the need for additives: controlled wettability, photonic and antibacterial properties, optimized interface between implants and human tissue,and  brand differentiation via diffractive designs. The nano-patterning can be done on the final part or on the tooling used for molded or stamped products. Morphotonix developed a mold nano-patterning technology that answers the industrial requirements of large-volume injection molding. We will discuss how our pattern range, long tool lifetime, its free-form geometry and its easy maintenance complement laser and Nickel shim technologies, and what this brings to the industry.

Dr. Veronica Savu, CEO Morphotonix
Veronica Savu obtained her PhD in Physics from Yale University (U.S.) in 2007, after which she moved to beautiful Lausanne, where she started a postdoctoral position in micro/nanotechnology at EPFL (CH). In 2009 I was awarded a five year Swiss National Science Foundation individual grant promoting junior researchers across disciplines, in collaboration with University of Basel. In 2014, Veronica became the co-founder and CEO of Morphotonix – a start-up providing the lowest C-footprint brand authentication and protection for molded products - now in production with customers world-wide. She trained in various entrepreneurship courses and is a certified start-up business coach for INNOSUISSE (CH).

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
