Photonics21
Photonics21 used to be the "European Technology Platform for Photonics" but has now grown into the more important "European Photonics PPP (Public Private Partnership)" and is the advocacy group for Photonics in Brussels.(Youtube). Photonics21 has many very useful downloads, such as strategic research and inovation agend (SRIA).
Photonics 21 is responsible for creating the Photonics roadmap, which is based on a market study, a strategic agenda (now for 2021 to 2027) finally, after a complex process, resulting in calls for Horizon Europe . These calls are created through input from workgroups, followed by selection and recommendation to the commission according to the following process.
It is important that we from Switzerland participate in this process in order to widen our network, to get early involvement already during the creation of the calls and finally to be ready to be asked to join a submission towards the PPP calls.
We were in the special situation that we can participate in calls without burdening the EU budget (as academia as well as industry gets paid from Bern) and thus are welcome partners to projects, but now we are back to being partners which are burdening the budget.

The Photonics PPP is administered by a support action, Phorwards21 running between 2024 and 2027. Swissphotonics is an active member of this support action and coordinated the "Photonics 4 .." workshops Europe wide. The Phorwards21 support action includes the following National Photonic Organisations.
