Integrated Polymer Photonics

Polymers are a diverse material platform with various use-cases in integrated photonics.

In contrast to highly confined PIC (InP, Si-Photonics), polymers exhibit optical properties matching those of glass fiber technology,  rendering them an attractive platform for sensing applications and hybrid integration. Moreover, polymer integrated circuits can directly be integrated with standard PCB manufacturing.

In this talk we will discuss the distinct properties of polymers in the context of integrated photonics and present use-cases and examples of this technology.

Dr. Nikolaus Flöry
Dr. Nikolaus Flöry is Business Development Manager at vario-optics AG, where he consults partners and customers in developing applications using photonic integrated circuits. During his PhD at ETH Zurich, he developed high-speed photodetectors based on 2D materials, integrated with silicon photonic waveguides.

Moderator

Dr. Christian Bosshard
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of America Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
