Photonics for Robotics

Robots have been used in industry for repetitive tasks for many years, however limited to industrial use by the high cost of their sensing technology. Today, robotics proliferates into commercial use due to progress of low cost optical sensors and the massive development of image analysis. It is estimated that the worldwide market for consumer robotics is growing from today’s 6 Billion USD to 50 Billion in 2023, at a yearly growth rate of 30% (marketresearchfuture).
 
We will address this exciting market in our workshop on “Image Analysis Technologies for Robotics and Automation” on September 12 at the FHGR in Chur, see Robotics and Automation .
 
In today’s lunch chat Prof Dr. Udo Birk (FHGR) and Dr. Gregory Hitz (Sevensense) will give an introduction into this exciting market.
