From Precision Manufacturing to Photonic Intelligence

On 21 October 2026, we invite the Swiss photonics community to the Rolex Learning Center at EPFL to celebrate 20 years of Swissphotonics—two decades of innovation, collaboration, and technological excellence that have helped position Switzerland among the world's leading photonics nations.

This anniversary event will bring together industry leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and students for a journey through the past, present, and future of photonics, one of Switzerland's most strategic technologies

The day begins with the Swissphotonics General Assembly 2026, including the official handover of management and presidency, marking a transition into the network's next phase. 

Following a networking lunch a retrospective on 20 Years of Photonics in Switzerland will highlight some of the breakthroughs, companies, research achievements, and partnerships that have shaped Switzerland's international reputation in precision manufacturing and photonic technologies.

Next we will look at the  “Future of Photonics in Switzerland”, exploring emerging trends such as photonic intelligence, integrated photonics, quantum technologies, advanced sensing, and AI-enabled optical systems. 

Finally, a high-level roundtable discussion will discuss the question: Can Switzerland stay a global deep-tech leader?

The celebration concludes with Awards, Recognition & Apéro Riche, providing ample opportunity for networking and exchange.

The event is also an opportunity for students and young professionals to discover the exciting world of photonics, learn about its diverse applications—from healthcare and communications to manufacturing and quantum technologies—and connect with leading experts from academia and industry.

The Swissphotonics anniversary celebration leads into the EPFL Photonics Days on 22 October 2026, creating two consecutive days dedicated to innovation, knowledge exchange, and the future of light-based technologies.

Join us as we celebrate 20 years of Swissphotonics—from the precision manufacturing heritage that built Switzerland's reputation to the photonic intelligence that will shape its future.
