Disruptive Optics and Sensing for the Next Generation of XR Glasses

AlphaLum is pioneering a new class of optical and sensing modules that push the boundaries of what’s possible in combiner technology and spatial computing. Building on breakthroughs originally developed within a corporate incubator, our team has engineered ultra-compact, high-performance elements tailored to the stringent requirements of wearable XR systems.

This talk will introduce the core principles behind AlphaLum’s technology platform, highlight key optical innovations, and outline how these enable radically improved form factors and user experiences in augmented and mixed reality devices.

Dr. Markus Rossi, CEO AlphaLum
Markus Rossi was one of the founders of Heptagon in 2000 which was acquired by ams in 2017. Since then he has been building and leading a corporate innovation incubator which spun off from ams OSRAM in April 2025. AlphaLum SA is located at the EPFL Innovation Park in Lausanne.

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, former Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
