We are pleased to announce and invite you to one of our weekly online zoom events.
Integration of High Bandwidth III-V Photodiodes on Silicon Photonics Platform
Silicon photonic circuits lack native high-speed detectors, making III-V photodiodes the technology of choice. This talk presents two integration routes from a photodiode supplier perspective. The first is mature hybrid assembly using tested chips, which remains the industry standard on the roadmap towards 400G per lane. The second is microtransfer printing, an alternative heterogeneous integration method. It places the photodiode directly on the waveguide and enables evanescent coupling.
About Albis Optoelectronics: Albis Optoelectronics AG is a leading designer, developer and manufacturer of high speed PIN and APD photodiodes for fibre optic datacom and telecom applications, with over 20 years of expertise. The portfolio covers digital and analog applications up to 70 GHz and photodiodes for sensing, long wavelength LiDAR and microwave photonic links. The facilities in Rüschlikon (Zurich, Switzerland) provide full in house production from front end to back end, including a class 100 clean room and test and qualification laboratories
Speaker
Dr. Maria Hämmerli, Technical Business Developer, Albis Optoelectronics AG
Dr. Maria Hämmerli received her MSc in Applied Mathematics and Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2010 and her doctorate from ETH Zurich in 2015. She subsequently joined ABB Semiconductors as an R&D Project Manager, working on the development of a new generation of IGCTs. Since 2019, she has been with Albis Optoelectronics AG, first as Product Manager and later as APD Team Leader, leading an international team and collaborative R&D projects. In 2025, she took on the role of Technical Business Developer, combining her expertise in semiconductor technologies and product development with commercial responsibility.
Moderator
Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, President of Swiss PIC, former Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
