Optical Sensing and Artificial Intelligence for Next-Generation Aerosol Analysis

After a brief introduction to Swisens AG, the optically based air-flow cytometer SwisensPoleno Jupiter will be presented. Its measurement principle and core functionalities will be explained, followed by examples of particle measurements across different aerosol particle classes. The application of AI-based classifiers for particle identification will then be introduced. Finally, selected use cases and applications enabled by SwisensPoleno will be presented.

Erny Niederberger, Co-Founder and Head of Science at Swisens
Erny Niederberger is Co-Founder and Head of Science at Swisens AG, specializing in aerosol measurement technologies and optical sensing. He has over 20 years of expe-rience in sensor development, optoelectronics, and environmental monitoring instru-mentation. He co-developed the SwisensPoleno platform for real-time bioaerosol de-tection using digital holography, fluorescence spectroscopy, and machine learning. Previously of Swisens, he worked more than 20 years in industrial and academic R&D. His work focuses on automated real-time aerosol particle monitoring for bioaerosol and coarse aerosol particle measurement and monitoring to explore the microcosmos of the aerosols.

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, former Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
