We are pleased to announce and invite you to one of our weekly online zoom events.
From Engineering to Pilot Production: Photonic Packaging & Characterization at Swiss PIC (up to 145 GHz)
Swiss PIC’s mission is to bridge photonic innovation to market ready modules, providing advanced packaging and integration services from first concept to scalable product. In doing so, Swiss PIC strengthens the Swiss photonics ecosystem by giving companies fast access to industrial grade packaging, testing, and characterization infrastructure.
In this talk, we show how Swiss PIC supports
customers from early packaging engineering through pilot and small series production, combining agile engineering with production grade infrastructure and industrial processes in an ISO 6 cleanroom.
For the first time, we will introduce Swiss PIC’s newest test and characterization capabilities, enabled by recently commissioned equipment. These capabilities characterization methods
up to 145 GHz, supporting the evaluation of high bandwidth photonic modules.
Furthermore, we will present a
standardized RF evaluation board reaching 100 GHz (‑3 dB), enabling fast turnaround characterization and forming a robust basis for industrialized high‑bandwidth photonic modules. Together with our expanded high‑frequency test infrastructure, it supports scalable development paths for high‑bandwidth photonic systems.
The presentation is grounded in real customer projects, illustrating how
early pre fabrication consulting, fast iteration, and reliable delivery under severe time pressure reduce risk and
accelerate time to market. As one customer summarizes:
“
Under extreme time pressure ahead of the OFC conference, Swiss PIC delivered high quality packaged chips on schedule, enabling a successful product demonstration.” -

Speaker
Dr. Andreas Hugi, CEO Swiss PIC
Dr. Andreas Hugi has been CEO of Swiss PIC since early 2026, where he is responsible for building industrial capabilities, scaling engineering teams, and maturing processes that bridge photonic innovation to deployable products. He is a technology leader with a strong background in photonics and industrialization. Prior to Swiss PIC, he co founded and led IRsweep from academic research to successful acquisition by Sensirion, and later held senior technology leadership roles in industry.
Moderator
Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, former Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
