Introducing Lumerical Burst – easy cloud access for GPU acceleration

As photonic designs grow in complexity and scale, simulation speed becomes a critical bottleneck. Lumerical Burst introduces a transformative approach to computational photonics by leveraging GPU acceleration to dramatically reduce simulation times. This presentation explores how Burst enables parallel execution of multiple FDTD simulations across GPU resources, unlocking high-throughput workflows for design optimization, statistical analysis, and parameter sweeps.

Steven Jones, Business Development Manager CADFEM
Steven Jones is the business development manager for optics and photonics at CADFEM, helping clients across Europe to get the most out of their simulation and design efforts. During his career he has worked with simulation for a range of applications incorporating nanophotonics, imaging system design, illumination design, and environmental factors. He holds a Ph.D. from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and obtained his M.Sc./B.Sc. from the University of Victoria in Canada.

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, former Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
