Quantum sensing the nanoscale

Using a single defect in diamond as an atomic scale quantum sensor sounds like science fiction. But is now an established method, particularly for imaging magnetic fields at the nanometer scale. I will give a brief introduction to the method and some highlights for applications, from exotic materials studied in academia to current imaging for semiconductor applications.

Speaker

Dr. Gabriel Puebla Hellmann, CEO QZabre
Dr. Puebla Hellmann received a Master’s at ETH Zürich, and stayed there for a PhD with Prof. Andreas Wallraff in the Quantum Device Lab. He continued his post-doctoral research at IBM Zürich, first in collaboration with the University of Zurich, then with the University of Basel, where he worked to create a mass-fabrication compatible platform for molecular electronics. He joined QZabre as a late cofounder and CEO in summer 2018. QZabre is now the market leader for scanning Nitrogen Vacancy microscopes and scanning tips.

Moderator

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
