Abstract

Fiber lasers have seen dramatic progress in their output power. In particular, ytterbium-doped fiber lasers have been power-scaled to 10 kW level at ~1.1 mm with a nearly diffraction-limited beam. As it is a fiber laser, the fiber is a key element, i.e. the fiber should be designed to be suitable for power-scaling as well as control of nonlinearity. This talk will discuss specialty optical fibers for high power fiber based sources with particular attention to the design and fabrication.
