Photonics in Europe

Photonics21 is the European Technology Platform for Photonics, which is active in creating he roadmap for Horizon2020 through their workgroups. Swissphotonics has delegates in these workgroups.

Switzerland is represented in the Photonics21 mirror group by Dr. Stefan Oberholzer, from the BFE.

Swissphotonics is an active member of Innopho21, which includes several National Photonic Networks from Europe and which is a support action for continuation of Photonics21.

Switzerland is involved in long range planning of the European research agenda through Dr. Dimitris Kiritsis, EPFL

EPIC is the European Photonic Industry consortium. Membership does cost but you can get 15% rebate if you are Swissphotonics member.

Photonic Clusters in Europe are supported by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (CONNECT), Unit A1 Photonics (contact through Gabriella Leo) and by ASPICE, which is a support action for Photonic clusters in Europe.

Germany has its own Photonik network (Optech-net) and a strong industry association, SpectarisPhotonik_2020(PDF, 720 KB).

Photonics in USA

Swissphotonics is member of the USA Optical Industry Development Association, OIDA, and works closley with the Optical Society of America, OSA
